Full name

Entwicklung von Verfahren zur Optimierung der Hinterfüll- und Sondenmaterialien für die oberflächennahe Geothermie (Development of methods to optimize backfill and probe materials for near-surface geothermal energy)

Funding period:

05/2017-04/2020

The aim of the research project is to test the extent to which the integrity of the geothermal probe system is maintained over many years of operation with changing thaw freezing cycles or major fluctuations in fluid temperature. Within the framework of the study, the hydraulic, thermal and mechanical properties of different backfill and probe materials are to be characterised by means of geotechnical and thermophysical laboratory and pilot plant tests in the system network. Furthermore, numerical models will be developed which allow the transfer of the test results to the application case. From the results of the investigations, optimisation approaches are to be derived, which aim at a permanent system integrity and ensure an efficient probe operation.
